I think I'm going to make this a monthly thing from now on since they're so fun to do. Last month's was very heavily One Direction themed and I promise this one has a lot more variety. I actually really like all the music I've been listening to lately so without further ado and in no particular order, here are 19 songs from my June playlist:
1) Wolves by One Direction
I limited myself to this one song for this month because we don't need a repeat of May. I still love and am completely 100% obsessed with One Direction and this song is no exception. It's from my favorite album ever, Made in the AM, and funny story, I actually hated this song when I first heard it. But then I listened to it for a second time a month later and was one, confused, and two, in love. I don't know what happened in that one month but now I love this song. I guess it grew on me. This song has a very unique tone compared to the stereotypical 1D song which is pretty cool.
2) Back to You by Louis Tomlinson ft Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals
I know, I know Louis was in One Direction, but it's not the same so I'm including it, plus the song is really really good. It's not the typical type of song that I listen to but I guess Louis' voice will make me listen to anything *shrug*. I'm not a fan of too many curse words in a song but I make an exception for Lou because the way he says these words sounds so much better with his Doncaster accent. Actually, the way he says any word is better because of his accent.
3) What a Time by Julia Michaels ft.... um... Niall Horan
This was actually completely unintentional, and also I don't care so there. This song is actually really sad but it's beautiful at the same time. Julia Michaels has an amazing voice and it shows in this song. Niall Horan too of course has a wonderful voice. I also highly recommend the acoustic version of this song on Youtube because DAMN.
4) Babylon by Five Seconds of Summer
This song is pretty unique and different which is something I really like about it. I also really like how catchy it is and how it easily gets stuck in your head. I don't really have anything else to say about this song, good job guys?
5) You're Still the One by Shania Twain
Okay, this one is pretty special. I heard it for the first time only a few days ago and fell head over heels in love immediately. How I found it? Well, um... This is Harry Styles' favorite song, I know, I know. He did a cover of it with Kacey Musgraves which is also pretty damn amazing and I recommend that one as well (on youtube because unfortunately there is no spotify version). Anyway, this has quickly become one of my all-time favorites so if you haven't heard it yet, do yourself a favor and give it a try. It also made me painfully aware of how single I am, which is always a pleasant thing :)
6) Super Trouper by ABBA
ABBA for me has always been the perfect soundtrack to the summer time and this song is one that I've recently RE-discovered after a long time apart. It doesn't matter how long it's been, Super Trouper still slaps every single time.
7) Tongue Tied by Grouplove
90% sure I first heard this from Ellie Thuman's birthday post for Hannah Meloche, and the catchy chorus hooked me immediately: "Take me to your best friend's house..." The background music for this song is also really great and upbeat and just puts me in a good mood.
8) Never Really Over by Katy Perry
She's been gone for some time but she came back strong with this song. This song was playing in my head nonstop for two days straight and I'm okay with that because it's really, really good. The vocals here are also really impressive and really great. Katy Perry is still a queen.
9) Boyfriend by COIN
Just like Talk Too Much, this song is a bop. The lyrics are great and so is the message for that matter: not wanting to be someone's partner/boyfriend just because they're lonely because that's taking advantage of you. It's also really catchy and upbeat and puts me in a dance kind of mood (the best kind of mood).
10) when the party's over by billie eilish
This is probably my favorite billie song from her new album and maybe my favorite of hers all together??? I have to think about that a little more before confirming that but it's really good. It's also really depressing to listen to but what can I say, I'm a sucker for depressing songs...
11) If I Can't Have You by Shawn Mendes
Every song he puts out is just really good, that's all I can say. His voice is great and so are his lyrics, pretty much all of it. Now that I think about it, Senorita by Shawn Mendes ft. Camila Cabello is really good too so there's a bonus song. It's also currently stuck in my head so there's that.
12) I Want it That Way by the Backstreet Boys
This song is in my top five songs of all time yet I haven't been listening to it properly for months now so it feels good to rediscover and re-fall in love with this song. I don't even have to explain myself for this one. I Want it That Way is TIMELESS. I've loved this song since I was 7 and I first heard it on Arthur (the show of my childhood). I know every single lyric and I will never get tired of hearing it on the radio or playing it on repeat while doing homework.
13) Girls / Girls / Boys by Panic! At the Disco
This one is sort of in honor of pride month (HAPPY PRIDE MONTH EVERYONE) and also because it's just a really, really amazing song. We're not going to talk about the origins of this song (cough cough), and instead let's talk about the amazing lyrics, specifically "Love is not a choice." I wish some people could get that through their heads but oh well, Brendon Urie gets it.
14) broken by lovelytheband
Amazing voice. Amazing music. Amazing lyrics. Amazing amazing amazing. That's it. This song is another one that never really gets old. I've listened to it a LOT in the past year and I still love it just as much as it did the first few times I heard it.
15) Joy by Bastille
Bastille is one of my favorite artists (and he also sang Pompeii, another top five favorite for me and my second favorite song ever) and he recently released his new album: Dark Days which is phenomenal, I would really recommend giving it a listen. His voice is really unique and has this quality to it that makes it so special. I could listen to him sing for hours. Joy especially is a song I love.
16) Parking Lots by HUNNY
I found HUNNY randomly on Spotify in the "if you like this artist, you might like..." section of COIN and I fell in love immediately. Parking lots especially is really, really good. The whole album is good actually, and all their other songs too. I 10/10 recommend them if you like COIN or that type of indie style music.
17) Shy by HUNNY
Another lovely song from this band, and another one of my favorite from them. Go check them out!
18) Waves by Blanks
I discovered Blanks through his Youtube channel and specifically through his "remaking bad guy in one hour" video which was AMAZING. He's so talented and I really recommend watching that video (here). I need his version of bad guy on spotify NOW but it's currently not on :( Thankfully, he does have some original music which is really, really good. Waves is my favorite from him.
19) Make Me Your Queen by Declan McKenna
He's been one of my favorites for nearly two years now and every sing he writes is fantastic. This is another song from his album What Do You Think About the Car? (if you recall Why Do You Feel So Down was on there too) and it lives up to the quality standard of all his other songs.
So those were the 19 songs on my May playlist, if you're interested in my music playlist, feel free to follow me on spotify. I hope you're having a wonderful day/night wherever you are in the world and if you're not, I hope you do soon. Listen to music and treat people with kindness (really channeling my inner Harry Styles today).
No mourners, no funerals,
