Music is perhaps the only thing that keeps me sane when I'm stressed, tired, and overwhelmed (aka me right now). Life has been pretty hectic lately and music has been a constant anchor in this sea of madness which is testing, projects, SAT, debate, and traveling.
So I was thinking I might as well share some songs I'm loving lately in April though a lot of these are year long favorites. I'm formatting this as a simple list- short explanations because I can't coherently explain why I like different songs. It's impossible. So this will probably be a much shorter post, but I hope you enjoy nonetheless.
So without further ado, here is a list of twenty songs I'm digging right now (in no particular order).
1) Sucker by the Jonas Brothers (they're back baby!) This song is a literal bop and it's always stuck in my head.
2) No Control by One Direction (maybe they're due to come back soon too?? *crossing fingers*) This is one of their more angsty songs but it's really catchy and bold and it's one of my new favorites from them.
3) AM by One Direction. This one is perhaps one of my favorite songs of all time because of it's easy-to-get-stuck-in-your-head lyrics and nostalgic feeling. It makes me think of home and friends and gives me a warm feeling inside.
4) Personal by HRVY. This one is a guilty pleasure favorite but let's be real- who really can resist the "cheeky" lyrics as someone put it, and it's catchy beat. This one is a song I keep coming back to even a year later.
5) bad guy by Billie Eilish. Yes, I'm one of those girls who stans Billie songs and pretends to understand and relate to the depressing lyrics (some of them I really feel like I do though) that she sings in that unique and entrancing voice. Her new album is much darker but also really new and exciting?
6) Why Do You Feel So Down? by Declan McKenna. His voice is wonderful and this song is fantastic. The first time I heard it, I knew it'd be a favorite within the first five seconds just hearing the music from the intro part.
7) Talk Too Much by COIN. Another song with fantastic music and feel. The into is so bright and this song just makes me feel so happy and light even in stressful times as these.
8) Monster Among Men by 5 Seconds of Summer. Another bop with great voices and music. I feel like this song reminds me of my terrible taste in boys but you know, that's cool too.
9) Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men (I placed this after the previous song on purpose- there was a point where these two songs were the only ones stuck in my head and it was weird because of the name similarity). The enchanting music contrasts so well to the quite frankly depressing lyrics. I 10/10 recommend.
10) Girl Almighty by One Direction. Yes, another 1D song. I love them okay? This song just grabs your heart right from that intro which I desperately need to be my alarm (waking up to this song would always start the day right). Even though none of the lyrics make any sense, this song is really fun.
11) Superhero by Lauv. This one is relatively sadder but it's honestly so soothing and the story behind this song is really cute (look up Lauv My Blue Thoughts or just watch the music video).
12) Everybody Wants to Rule The World by Tears for Fears. An oldie but a goodie and even though I've loved this song for years, I will forever associate it with the To All the Boys adaption (not a bad association).
13) Why Did it Have to be Me? by ABBA. Another oldie but goodie and the Mamma Mia 2 version is great too. ABBA's songs just have that happy go lucky, summery love feeling that I adore.
14) Stay Young by Maisie Peters aka one of my favorite YouTube found artists of all time. All her songs are good honestly but this is her newest so I'm talking about it. She's so underrated and she deserves to be the pop icon she is.
15) Would You be So Kind by dodie clark. I recently re-discovered this song and even though Dodie herself is not a fan of this song, I love it so much and it perfectly captures what it feels like for me to have a crush on someone.
16) when the party's over by Billie Eilish. Another billie song, I know I know. But she's just so good?
17) SUBURBIA by Troye Sivan. I didn't know what I was missing by not listening to Troye Sivan until hearing this song and I was hooked from hearing his voice in the first line. This song also gives me really nostalgic "vibes". I feel weird using that word with how it's overused in odd ways these days.
18) Roaring 20s by Panic! at the Disco. This song gives me the best, old time-y feeling ever and the music is FANTASTIC. Panic! is getting really popular because of High Hopes (which is still really good but you should try his other songs out, especially Dying in LA which is an honorary addition to this list).
19) Overpass by Panic! at the Disco. ^^ This one has wonderful music too, and it gives my mom 60s feelings and it gives me the same oldie, nostalgic vibes as Roaring 20s even though I wasn't alive then... My mom wasn't really either but okay.
20) Viva la Vida by Coldplay aka my favorite song ever since literally forever that I haven't listened to in a while since this month and I'm just as in love with it now as I was then. It's wonderful and deep and the lyrics are so good.
Also for a last honorable mention because this song is currently stuck in my head (and what do you know, playing on Spotify at this very moment): bury a friend by Billie Eilish.
There you have it folks. That sort of encapsulates my music taste which is basically something from everything. I have no describable music taste and that's something I've accepted. Maybe you found some interesting recs from this list or maybe not. Maybe our tastes are nothing alike and if that's the case, thanks for reading anyway. See you soon for a recent reads post.
